Here is a view of the inside of the National Airport.
I found a really cheap ticket and flew to Washington just for this lecture. |

Ginny, my daughter, and I met up with Betsy my sister.
We delivered a belated Christmas present from Evelyn (a really cool hand made table cloth for her beach cottage). We then ate some supper before the lecture at a Chinese restaurant in L'Enfant Plaza. |
Here is Ginny and me at the Chinese restaurant. |

We made our way over to wing 7 of the Department of
Agricultuer. And finally into the lecture hall which was packed. |
There is Brian Green on the right. |

After the lecture everyone who either brought their book with them or purchased a copy in the lobby got the chance to have Brian Green sign it. I have purchased two copies of each of his books: The Elegant Universe and The Fabric of the Cosmos and since I have loaned out and given away all my copies we just walked up to the front of the auditorium and I stood by the table while Ginny snapped my picture. |
As you probably already know 2005 is the The World Year of Physics. and is in commemoration of Einstein's five great papers. The one on the photoelectric effect can be thought of as launching quantum mechanics while the one of special relativity eventually lead to his theory of general relativity. One of Ginny's coworkers got me a pin (pictured above) that is connected with this event. |

After returning to work on Thursday I got a couple of email messages from my coworkers asking about the lecture. One fellow wanted to know just how long a 'string' was and here is my response: The Size of a String |
While the other fellow asked about the concept of The 'Multiverse'. Here is my response to that: The Multiverse and my contribution to all this. |
