NOTES:
2006.04.02.SUN.PM - (My Good Old N Raleigh Loop Ride) - I
got new shoes yesterday, an early birthday present from Evelyn,
Ginny, Anna and Robert and I switched over the cleats and was
getting ready to go for walk and Evelyn said, "Aren't you going to
try out your new shoes?" Well now, given this weekend is the
absolutely most beautiful weekend of the year so far I put on my
riding shorts and new shoes and hit the road. I kept thinking,
"Well I can just ride on the greenway a bit, and I can turn around
any time now, and before I knew it I was pulling into the gas
station at the corner of NC-50 and Norwood road my 1/2 way point,
buying a small can of 'Red-Bull' and 1.0L bottle of water and
getting ready to go the rest of the way, which I did! And
excellent ride. Here is a link to the
Google maps-pedimoter
route. And here is the
Queue Sheet for this
ride.
2006.03.26.SUN.AM - (A DVD VIDEO) - This is billed as a 2
mile brisk walk. You walk in place and also do: side steps,
knee lifts, back kicks, front kicks, and using a rubber band do some
arm stretching. It gets your heart rate up and it gets some
muscles going that do not get going usually, and I did it on a nice
soft cushioned rug so all in all a most successful workout.
Additionally because there was frost on the car and my ribs are
'stove-in' from an activity at work last week I gave the NCBC Spring
Bicycle Rally a pass this year.
2006.03.20.MON.AM - (A WALK TO WORK) - This day the
company had a meeting that started at 7:30AM and was being held in a
hotel near Crabtree Valley Mall. This hotel is right near a
bike path that I have been on many times so I decided to walk to
work this morning. I left about 7:10AM and arrived at 7:40AM
so the walk was just about a 2 mile walk, my usual lunch walk.
Here is a
link to the walk using Google maps.
2006.03.12.SUN.AM - (The Three
Peninsula Ride) - We left at 9AM and headed up Fisher St
to 24th St to the AB bridge and over the bridge and up to Ft Macon.
Then back over the bridge and out Bridges St to the bike path and
the High School. Then down Country Club Road to Blair Farms
Point then back on Blair Farms Pkwy to 20th St and back to Fisher
St. What a super Sunday morning ride.
2006.03.11.SAT.AM - (The Two
Peninsula Ride) - Laviece and Paul came down to the beach
this weekend. This is Laviece's spring break and we set out
from Fisher street then up to 20th street then over to Blair Farm
Point then back along Country Club Road then onto the Crab Point
loop then down to the High School and onto the bike path back to the
Hospital. Then across to the NC Marine Fisheries department
past the UNC Chapel Hill Marine Biology department and then into the
NC Wildlife Access Boat launch area and onto Evans Street.
Then all the way down to Sheppard Street and down to the State Port
Authority and back across the peninsula to Fisher street. In
the afternoon we explored the potential "Four Peninsula Ride" which
will start at Fisher Street go over the bridge toward Beaufort then
up NC101 to the "Marlow Canal" then wind around to Newport
then over to NC24 and back to Blair Farms then over to Fisher Street
then onto Fort Macon and back to Fisher Street.
2006.03.06.MON.PM - (Lake Lynn
Clockwise Walk) - I had a lunch meeting Friday and
Saturday and Sunday just did not get out of the house to walk or
anything else. Today at Lunch I was feeling pretty good (three
days rest). So I cranked it up and walked quickly the whole
time. My HR hit 80% of MAX a few times and I never got below
130. The average 1/4 time was my best for this year 3:49 and
only 10 seconds per 1/4 mile from my all time best of 3:39.5.
The key is the rest my feet are just so sore these days it is
difficult to crank it up. I'm trying some stretching before I
walk to see if that helps. The other thing I suppose would be
to see if some sort of shoe inserts would help. Of course the
weight is the biggest thing if I could drop 20-30 lbs that would be
the most help of all.
2006.02.25.SAT.AM - (Fisher
Street - Blair Point - High School - Fort Macon Loop Ride)
A chilly ride, the temp started out in the high 30s low 40s but hit
high 40s before it was over. When I got back to the Atlantic
Beach bridge I decided to go out to Fort Macon and it was a grand
tour. I took some time at the shelter that overlooks the
Beaufort inlet to let my toes thaw out a bit and was fine on the way
back over the bridge to Morehead City. I thought about just
going in complete reverse to get back to Fisher Street which would
have put the ride at about 40 miles, perhaps next time I do this
ride I'll do that.
2006.02.07.TUE.PM - (Work - Food
Lion - Work Loop Walk) Here is a nice 2.4 mile walk
from my office down to the shopping center Food Lion store where I
can pickup a sandwich and return to work, not only getting lunch but
also getting in a good walk. It certainly is not as scenic as
the Lake Lynn Walk but it has the advantage of also being around two
miles and I do not need a car to get to the walk start/stop
location. I mapped out the walk using the Google Maps
Pedometer application and here is a
link to the
actual walk.
And here is a graphic
of the map of the walk.
2006.02.04.SAT.PM - (Fisher
Street - Blair Point - High School - Loop Ride) My
first bike ride of the year. The theory was that walking two
miles at lunch would keep me in good aerobic shape so when I do ride
my bike I will feel just fine. And if today's ride is any
indication of whether that theory is correct then I can say it is
proved! What a grand ride, I felt good the whole ride, even
when the wind was in my face which it was about half the ride around
15 miles per hour gusting to 20. Near the end of the ride I
thought about just riding over the Atlantic Beach Bridge and going
out to Fort Macon and back but decided not to push it for the first
ride.
2006.01.13.FRI.PM
- (Lake Lynn Walk) The
VO2-MAX reading is from my new heart-rate-monitor watch. This
watch will compute the Rockport VO2-MAX reading. You enter
your age, weight, sex into the watch and press the 'test' button and
it gives you a five minute warm up time then beeps at you.
After one mile you press the stop button and it computes VO2MAX.
I bet if I actually had my VO2MAX computed directly it would be
higher, and I think the equations that I find on the web are not
correct. The walk around Lake Lynn is a total of 2 miles.
Here is the route
as computed by Google Maps Pedometer. |
