This year the cottage was about 18 miles from the Fort Macon end of the island. I rode my bike every day of the week. Laviece and I rode together, John and I rode together, and this day Evelyn Laviece and I rode together. The ride down to the end of the island was super. The road, NC58 has a nice wide paved part to the right of the solid white line almost all the way to the end of the island. The only place where this is not the case the road is four lanes or you are in the state park or in a residential area at the other end of the island. Here we are at the shelter at the end of the island where you can sit and look out into the ship channel that all the traffic destined for Beaufort or the state port at Morehead City must take. In the background over Laviece's sholder you can see the buildings that belong to the Fort Macon Coast Guard station.
