I got to sleep in a motel over night and we took off in a headwind for Manteo at 6:30AM. We ate breakfast in Hatteras village once we went across the ferry from Ocracoke to Hatteras island. The restaurant had a big screen tv showing the progress of Hurricane Irene. We rode on to the new location of the Hatteras light and even stopped and ate lunch and met a couple of bikers going the other way. On and off through the day we rode through rain bands. Once we turned west on US64 get to Manteo I felt like the ride was done. After all I was turning West on US64 rather than East. The ride to Manteo was great because we had a tail wind. The after ride party with fried-fish, beer, and blue grass music was great. That night I did "gym-camping" again since I was sure the rain-bands would probably increase. Sure enough in the morning the water was running off the roof of the Manteo Middle School like a waterfall.
